    Creamy Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal / Vegan

    I think in Autumn and Winter, the coldest seasons, we all need some comfort food.
    Since breakfast is my favorite meal, then I say...we all need comfort food for breakfast!
    And this cinnamon apple oatmeal can definitely be part of that category. Delicious, sweet, healthy and comforting.

    How to make cinnamon apple oatmeal in ONLY 2 steps

    Making a nice and creamy apple oatmeal (and looooots of cinnamon powder) is actually pretty easy.
    The most important part? Keep stirring with a spatula, throughout the process!

    To make a delicious oatmeal, follow these steps:

    1. Combine
      Combine all the ingredients into a pan: water, oats, a pinch of salt, cinnamon and - if you don't caramelize apples - also chopped apple and maple syrup.
      Personally I like to use half of the apple INSIDE my oatmeal, and the other half caramelized.
    2. Cook
      Cook until creamy, but remember to keep stirring! That is very important in order not to make it stick to the pan.
      I use a silicon spatula for this purpose.

    Optional step: CARAMELIZED apples

    1. In a small pan, combine maple syrup, chopped apples and a pinch of cinnamon. Bring to a simmer and let caramelize (keep stirring).

      If you do this, don't add extra maple syrup TO the oatmeal, just use it to caramelize the fruit. Otherwise it'll be too sweet.

    Can you prepare it in advance?

    Of course you can!

    I usually take my photos during the day (in the evening when I want to shoot with artificial light). So, if it's savory food I eat it for lunch/dinner.
    If it's breakfast - like in this case - I store it into a airtight jar until the day after.

    Can you heat overnight oats?

    Totally! As I just mentioned, I store my apple oatmeal (and not only this) into a jar, then in the morning I heat it into a pan or - even quicker - into the microwave!
    Healthy and nutritious breakfast in literally a few seconds! What's better than that?

    What consistency should oatmeal be?

    Now, that's a good question.
    In my vanilla strawberry oatmeal post I've shared a small clip where I show you the consistency.

    Some people suggest not to keep stirring otherwise texture becomes gluey.
    I don't know if it depends on the kind of oats, on the water/oats ratio or what, but I've never found my oatmeal to be sticky.

    My suggestion is: try both ways (1. let it undisturbed and stir a couple of times, 2. then try to stirring throughout the process). And choose what you like most.

    CINNAMON APPLE OATMEAL

    Ingredients

    • 50 gr Instant oats (or rolled)
    • 150 gr Water or plant milk
    • a pinch Salt
    • 1 Apple
    • a pinch Cinnamon powder
    • 1 tablespoons Maple syrup

    Instructions

    If you don't want caramelized apple oatmeal:
    • Combine all the ingredients in a pan: water, oats, salt, chopped apple, cinnamon and maple syrup.
    • Bring to a boil (low heat), keep stirring and cook until nice and creamy (see the consistency it should have HERE)
    If you want caramelized apple oatmeal:
    • In a pan, combine all the ingredients except the apple and maple syrup.
    • In a another pan, combine maple syrup, chopped apples and a pinch of cinnamon. Bring to a simmer and let caramelize (keep stirring).
      If you do this, don't add extra maple syrup TO the oatmeal, just use it to caramelize the fruit. Otherwise it'll be too sweet.
    • Cook like explained above.
    • Your apple oatmeal is ready!
