Ingredients are also super easy to find so...no excuses!:)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this recipe you'll need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Whole wheat flour <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A good vanilla extract - preferably homemade<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Egg<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Honey (substitute with maple syrup if vegan)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Yogurt (or plant based yogurt if you're vegan\/intolerant)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Milk (or plant based milk if you're vegan\/intolerant)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Baking soda<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lemon juice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Result? <strong>Crispy waffles <\/strong>that you can enjoy with your favorite toppings when you want a delicious but healthy breakfast. [P.S. The reason why I don't call these Belgian waffles is that I never want to offend food from other places <em>eheh<\/em> but they're probably very similar]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The best waffle toppings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let's talk about the toppings. I am curious to know: what do you usually top your waffles with? I am usually pretty \"minimal\" and eat them with fresh fruit and maple syrup, but you can also top them with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bananas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Berries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Peaches<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pears <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Honey <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chocolate chips (add them when waffles are warm)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Melted chocolate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lemon curd<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For something indulgent: whipped cream or ice cream<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For savory options: eggs, bacon, crispy fried chicken<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can combine some of these toppings (peaches and blueberries with maple syrup <em>mmm<\/em>), you can caramelize fruit, you can use chocolate chips INSIDE the batter too... You'll just have to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First, <strong>preheat<\/strong> the waffle maker. This is a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">key<\/span> step.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then prepare the waffle <strong>batter<\/strong>: in a bowl add all purpose flour and salt; in another bowl add vanilla, egg, honey and yogurt.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stir well then combine the<strong> flour into the egg <\/strong>mixture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Now gradually pour the milk into the batter: the mixture <strong>should not be too thick or too runny.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lastly, add baking soda and lemon juice <\/strong>(on top of baking soda so it forms bubbles). In this recipe, I've used just a tiny bit of baking soda and lemon juice, so the waffles are crispy on the outside. If you want to make them fluffier, add some extra leavening agent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I can guarantee, waffles without baking powder are equally delicious!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can you use baking soda instead of baking powder?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course! This is how I made THESE waffles! Baking soda is a pure leavening agent and it reacts when combined with an acidic substance (lemon juice or vinegar, or cream of tartar).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Baking powder contains baking soda and other ingredients like cornstarch and a powdered acidic substance. In simple terms, it's ready to use.
