The theme, on day 2, was usage of the  \"shades of the same color\".<br>So I decided to make cr\u00e8me br\u00fbl\u00e9e to play with orange and yellow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You maybe know original cr\u00e8me br\u00fbl\u00e9e calls for yolks, cream, sugar and vanilla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Problem: I didn't have cream at home, and I had to make it ASAP. <em>Ok - <\/em>I thought <em>- I'm going to use coconut milk instead.<\/em> I found this <a href=\"https:\/\/whatgreatgrandmaate.com\/paleo-lemon-creme-brulee\/\">simple recipe on What Great Grandma Ate<\/a> and decided to make it.<br>But then I remembered I had to use the last can to make chickpea curry.<br>*arggg*<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You know, though, that life is all about troubleshooting, right? Well, <strong>I had exactly a cup of milk left, to which I added half a tablespoon of organi all purpose flour<\/strong> and... TADAAAAAN! Who needs cream when you have those 2 ingredients?? (kidding, not my intention to insult traditional cr\u00e8me br\u00fbl\u00e9e recipe!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participating in a food photography challenge doesn't mean the recipe has to be good. But I've been pleasantly surprised when I realized this dessert was not only beautiful to photograph, but also delicious. So, I had to share it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1800\" src=\"https:\/\/healthylittlecravings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-make-easy-Creme-brulee-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14668\" srcset=\"https:\/\/healthylittlecravings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-make-easy-Creme-brulee-6.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/healthylittlecravings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-make-easy-Creme-brulee-6-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/healthylittlecravings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-make-easy-Creme-brulee-6-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/healthylittlecravings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-make-easy-Creme-brulee-6-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/healthylittlecravings.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/how-to-make-easy-Creme-brulee-6-1024x1536.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Essential steps<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To make my easy cr\u00e8me br\u00fbl\u00e9e, the essential steps are (make sure to watch the video below!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Combine egg yolks (at room temperature), vanilla and lemon zest<\/strong> (from organic lemon), give a quick stir;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Into a pot, <strong>add flour, milk and honey,<\/strong> stir and bring to a simmer;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add it to the egg mixture to temper them, and - this is optional - &nbsp;use a mesh strainer to <strong>strain<\/strong> the batter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pour it into one or more ramekins, depends on the size, (remember the water bath! A humid environment is key), &nbsp;<strong>bake<\/strong>.  Then let cool down.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a torch - or your oven's broiler - to caramelize the sugar.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And you're done! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The thing I love more? You can prepare it in advance, then torch it in front of your guests (but be careful!!!) and serve!<br>The extra touch? Red currants. Don't skip it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my case, what I've done (watch the video) is I've used a deep brownie pan, because I didn't have any other  pan for this purpose. If you use more ramekins though, you can use a larger pan. But it has to be quite deep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do you have to wait for cr\u00e8me br\u00fbl\u00e9e to cool, before torching?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, you definitely have to wait before torching, <strong>otherwise the sugar will melt<\/strong> and you don't want that!<br>Prepare your cr\u00e8me br\u00fbl\u00e9e in advance, then caramelize the sugar right before serving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What can I use if I don't have a cr\u00e8me br\u00fbl\u00e9e torch?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Easy-peasy: use your oven!<br><strong>Put the ramekin under the broiler<\/strong> for a few minutes, until your sugar has caramelized.
