Oh, chocolate… You know my struggle, my daily struggle. Since it’s a real challenge for me to resist chocolate, I’m trying over and over to find healthy ways to eat it. The easiest is one-square-a-day of dark chocolate. This protein lava cake, though, is something that instantly brings you joy and keeps guilt away. Plus, it’s made with extra proteins.
Almost one and a half year ago I decided to begin my fitness, or better home fitness, journey. In fact, I also hope to review soon some of the programs/challenges I took and trainers I followed.
Together with this “fitness enthusiasm”, I began also eating healthy. In daily life I follow the 80-20 rule (this is the first result that appeared when I googled). That means I eat clean 80% of my meals (for example, 21 meals a week: 17 clean, 4 indulge – or – 7 days and one indulging).
So, on November 2015 I bought Impact whey protein powder, even if I don’t know exactly the reason, and one year later I’m here trying to find a way to use them up.
Disclaimer: I don’t recommend anyone using protein powder or, generally, supplements. Mine is just a little recipe to learn how to use these in case you have them.
Enough chit-chat! Here’s a yummy way to eat protein powder (and chocolate of course!)
P.S. Recipe was found on Yummly and re-adapted.
Ingredients: (for one protein lava cake)
- Impact whey protein, one scoop/25 gr
- Coconut flour, half a tablespoon
- Unsweetened cocoa powder, one tablespoon and a half
- Milk or plant milk, 60 ml
- Baking powder, half teaspoon
- Vanilla extract, some drops
- Instant coffee
- Chopped dark chocolate or chocolate chips, optional
In a mug or a small cup, both work, mix a scoop of protein powder with coconut flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, a pinch of salt and half a teaspoon of instant coffee. Add a few drops of vanilla extract and the milk of your choice straight into the mug/cup, then combine well paying attention to clumps.
Microwave on high for 25 seconds, then stop and cook few seconds more or until the edge is cooked and the heart is still creamy.
Turn the mug cake upside down and decorate with chopped dark chocolate, if desired. Serve it immediately.
