It’s so crazy how walks (usually with my dog) always become a sort of time off, a time to reflect …about stuff. A moment that I take to re-arrange the billions of thoughts that everyday travel through my mind. A shake-up. And I don’t even do this on purpose.
With this premise: do you know what I was thinking today during my daily 15 minutes’ walk (this time without my dog)? I was looking back on my ‘journey’ to this healthy lifestyle that I adopted, basically these last two years and a half.
How I reached my own concept of healthy lifestyle…
I can say I’ve been blessed enough to have a mom that cared about us. She never bought us junk food, it may have happened twice in our lives. I seriously never craved sweet beverages, sweet processed food… I almost hated that artificial taste of them. I always preferred homemade treats instead.
So, what I was thinking today was that, to me, it actually always came natural to ‘eat healthy’ or at least don’t eat processed. Of course my mom used other kinds of ingredients in her dishes, maybe a bit more dense in calories, she was (and is) very traditional when she’s in the kitchen.
What I also learnt in my youth was BALANCE, EVEN UP.
I eat healthy 80% of the times, meaning that I eat food rich in micronutrients and benefits. Then if I want to eat sweet treats every once in a while, I eat them. Chocolate doesn’t count, it is in my ‘healthy food’ list, eheh.
There is no BAD or GOOD (maybe there’s better and worse?).
Especially, NO ONE should feel guilty just because he/she eats something that it’s not ‘considered’ healthy.
Instead, our family have never been that sporty. Yes, I did several sports when I was younger (swimming, tennis, volleyball, gym, pilates when in high school…) but I always ended up being bored and I never got excited about them (even if I still do love tennis, for example).
Therefore, this ‘exercising’ thing never came easy to me and I had to work on this. Now I have found my balance.
I LOVE yoga and I love biking around my town, I also do some intense workouts every once in a while.
To me, what is more important is being happy with what I do daily.
May be different for others though…
This was the peak of the Pindaric flight I made in my head today. To me, having an healthy lifestyle means the above. What for others?
For example, I consider pizza part of an healthy lifestyle, maybe others don’t and they view it as ‘cheat meal’. I hate the word ‘cheat’ when talking about food. I don’t even understand what it means.

The superficial-me always thinks ‘Well, if the reader is here, he/she probably knows what *insert name of food* is…because he/she looked for it on Google.’
The caring-me instead always believes I should explain, just a little bit.
If you have never made bliss balls, oh my gosh whatareyouwaitingfor?
I mean, they’re life. They cheer up your afternoon, they perfectly break your morning…
They give you energy before your workout, before a walk, before go hiking or biking.
They’re also the perfect sweet treat to satisfy your sweet tooth.
What I usually don’t love about bliss balls made with dates, is that they’re way too sweet. Despite what you could think, these super easy balls are not that sweet because unsweetened cocoa powder helps balancing. See? It’s always a matter of balance in life!
Prepare these 4 ingredients and make the easiest chocolate bliss balls’ recipe now! You won’t regret, I promise.
Ingredients: (quantity may vary depending on chocolate bliss balls’ size)
- Dates (still with pits), 85 gr
- Cashew or macadamia butter*, 55 gr
- Unsweetened cocoa powder, 5 gr
- Ground black sesame seeds, 15 gr
Pit your dates** then blend them in a powerful food processor together with ground black sesame seeds, nut butter and cocoa powder. Keep blitzing until a big ‘ball’ comes together. It’ll be pretty sticky.
Wet your hands and make the bliss balls by taking half a tablespoon of the mixture and rolling it into a ball. Coat them with cocoa powder and/or black sesame seeds.
Store in the fridge for a couple of days (I’m sure you’ll eat them immediately).

**if they’re not Medjoul dates and they seem a bit dry to you, soak them for five minutes in hot water.
