I am happy, I am serene. As time goes by, I’ve noticed that the secrets behind this happiness of mine are the little things, daily little beautiful things. That’s right, there’s ALWAYS at least one reason to be happy. A walk with my dog, the sunset, my favorite music, my boyfriend’s smile, my nephews’ laughter, the mess my mom does in the kitchen, a freshly baked cake, a whole hour of relaxing yoga, my favorite book, sipping a tea while watching Netflix. These things make me feel alive and happy. Every. Single. Day.
Don’t get me wrong, I have up and downs me too, but I also have tiny little ‘secrets’.
You know, ‘everyone is the creator of his/her own destiny’ and we have the ‘task’ to re-built EVERYDAY from the beginning. So it is for our happiness: it depends from us and us only. We have to react. It’s so easy to give up, to let ourselves go. What about the opposite?
If you’re here, that’s probably because this sort of challenge aroused your curiosity. Am I right? Maybe the title caught your attention, maybe you feel you need something like this. You need to feel happier.
In the next 25 days, we will focus on thos little habits or gestures that make the difference in our daily life. Creating a relaxing atmosphere, eating well, exercising, creativity… It will be a miscellaneous.
GET INTO HABITS
If, in the first days, you’re feeling a bit disoriented, it’s okay, do not give up!
They say it takes AT LEAST 21 days to get into habits and you have to be costant.
There’s also a misbelief behind this ’21 days’ thing. Someone says it takes ABOUT 21 days, some other just 21 days. The theory comes from plastic surgeon Maxwell Maltz that, back in the Fifties, noticed how it required a MINIMUM of 21 days ‘to an old mental image to dissolve and a new one to jell’.
As more people talked about this theory, people started to shorten the sentence to ‘it takes 21 days to form a new habit’.
Just to be clear: some of the ‘tasks’ will be more rituals (also inspired by Danish hygge) than ‘habits’. Rituals that would be better to adopt every day.
25 LITTLE THINGS to be happy every day is meant to support people to be more AWARE, more PRESENT.
This challenge has only one commitment: you have to stop everyday for a few minutes and think of the beautiful things in life. Think of what you have (not – only – tangible things) will allow you to be more conscious about your luck and all those things towards whom you don’t give enough importance.
Every day, from 1 to 25 December*, I’ll give you a task to follow, a small thing to do. It should be something that makes you happy.
It’s been a while since I wanted to share this challenge and I really hope it will help you to be happier in the long term. I believe in you.
*I will post the task the day before at 6.30 p.m. (UTC +1 hour)
When I started my self-improvement journey, I found that writing down things helped me realizing them and be conscious of them. For this challenge, you can either make a little notebook or not. Put things down in black on white could really help you! This is a habit you could maintain in the long term so you’ll be able to take note of your emotions, thoughts, positive affirmations…
It’s not a real challenge since you don’t win anything, well you win HAPPINESS. But I would love to see your pictures on social media. This could also motivate you and all the other people that will participate, and we could create a community behind this challenge.
So if you want to be ‘social’ use the hashtag #25littlethings and tag me @healthylittlecravings. It’s not an obligation, but it should be nice!
Also, to support each other, subscribe to the brand new group ‘Healthy Little Habits’ 🙂
Taking part to this challenge should be a pleasure so do not feel obligated! Remember: the most important thing is to STOP and be present.
See you tomorrow with the
